Vines are a new popular way to decorate your front yard, back yard, or even inside of your home. They are superior to many common flowering plants in that you do not need to take such obsessive care of them to help them reach spectacular heights. However, unlike regular flowering plants, vines such as a hummingbird vine can be difficult to maintain if you do not want them taking over your home or garden. While any plant requires continual pruning to keep the plant healthy and controlled, vines which grow much more quickly are problematic in that they require massive amounts of pruning to keep them under control. Nevertheless, vines like the hummingbird vine produce beautiful flowers which, as the name implies, will attract a myriad of different hummingbirds so your garden can feel like a wilderness only seen in fantasy books or medieval plays.

There is no particular vine known as the hummingbird vine. This is just a general term given to a variety of different types of vines which grow flowers and attract hummingbirds. The most common hummingbird vine is known as the trumpet vine, a plant which produces beautiful red, yellow and orange flowers which are world renowned for their ability to attract hummingbirds. As with most vines, the trumpet vine is incredibly easy to grow and only requires water and fertilizer. Inside of the flowers on a this vine, you will find gobs of sweet nectar which hummingbirds eat for nutritional purposes. Many of the classic trumpet vines will grow during the summer months starting in June until the first frost. Flowers generally appear in July depending on climate. As with any vine, you should have a space made up especially for a hummingbird vine, as they generally grow to at least twenty feet. Although the hummingbird vine does not provide a great deal of shade, you can use the plant to cover any unsightly areas of your back yard or wherever you chose to plant this versatile vine.

The primary objective of landscape gardening, as well as of much interiorscaping, is to combine plants so the overall picture they create is pleasing to the eye. But the aesthetic risks, as well as the potential rewards, increase when plants are installed so closely that they're forced to intermingle.
