One of the most beautiful ponds you can create is a lilly pond. Water lilly plants have been the subjects of paintings for centuries and with good reason, they add character and elegance to any pond so it’s no wonder that artists have had a love affair with the lilly plant.

If you have a pond or are thinking of constructing a pond, you may want to consider making a lilly pond. One thing to keep in mind is that if you are going to have a lot of water lilly plants, then you will not be able to have many other plants. This is because water lilly plants thrive in areas where they do not have to compete with other plants for sunlight. This does not mean that you can’t have any other plants at all; it just means that you should only have submerged plants and not floating plants.

Lilly plants come in three categories. The hardy lilies will boom in late spring to early fall. If the water does not get too far below freezing, the hardy lilly will be fine. Hardy lilies come in orange, yellow, peach, salmon, pink, red and white. Like the hardy lilies, dwarf lilies will last through the winter. They begin life as yellow and become red. Tropical lilies doe not last through winter and can only last in water that is over 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Tropical lillies come in yellow blue pink red, white, purple and orange. The blooms of the tropical water lilly can grow a foot taller than the water surface.

Maintaining your lilly pond is something you should be doing on a regular basis. This will ensure that the water is of good quality and that the plants are not becoming too dense. Regularly inspect your pond for discoloration, plant density and, if you have fish in your pond, you need to inspect their health as well. To do this, just feed them some fish food that will stay on top of the water so they have to come to the surface to eat. While they are eating at the surface, this will give you a chance to inspect them.
